Hey there my fellow Planet Crafter! Have you been looking for some Pulsar Quartz? Maybe you need some because you just want to get the first two teleporters built. Or maybe you are a brand new player and you’re like “what is this pulsar quartz thing I keep seeing stuff about?”
What is Pulsar Quartz
Pulsar Quartz is pretty much the highest tier material in The Planet Crafter right now because you have to get your Terraformation Index up to 175 GTI before it unlocks for crafting in the Biolab. It also requires Zeolite, Osmium, Uranium, Iridium, and a Methane Cartridge to craft just one. On top of that, Pulsar Quartz is used to build/craft the highest tier items: the Nuclear Fusion Generator, the Teleporter, and the Fusion Energy Cell.
Crafting Pulsar Quartz
As already mentioned, before you can craft Pulsar Quartz you have to unlock the recipe by reaching 175 GTI on your Terraformation Index. That will take quite a while to achieve after starting a brand new game. But once you reach that level, you can craft all the Pulsar Quartz you want inside the Biolab as long as you have the required materials.
Check the Blue Crates
Like most items in the game, you can find the occasional piece of Pulsar Quartz inside the blue and gold crates, as well as lockers found inside abandoned bases. However, because Pulsar Quartz is such a high tier item, it will take a higher Terraformation Index level to allow it to spawn. That means leaving all those crates/lockers you encounter untouched until much later in your gameplay. This causes more problems by limiting your access to other resources you would be normally getting from the crates, so I do not recommend relying on this approach.
Pulsar Quartz Caves
Beyond the crates, there are two Pulsar Quartz caves in the world map as of the Insects & Waterfalls Update. The first cave is found in the Gate Desert/Boulder Desert area, and the second cave is part of the cave tunnel system that connects from the Arches biome to the Crater. Both of these caves also contain Sulfur and Osmium, and like other higher tier caves are blocked by ice. This ice will take a bit longer to melt than the ice blocking the Osmium caves. So once again you will be waiting a while before you can collect some Pulsar Quartz from these locations. More importantly, these caves are NOT MINEABLE. The caves are set in game code right now as “non-mineable” so even if you find a spot with room for an Ore Extractor, it will not let you place it down. So if you were hoping to get large quantities of Pulsar Quartz using Ore Extractors on the caves, well then you’ll just have to mine the other materials and craft it instead.
Cave #1: 967 : 50 : -974
Cave #2 Arches entrance: 138 : 168 : 2059
Cave #2 Crater entrance: -123 : 162 : 1711

The Meteor Field
One of the easiest places to find some Pulsar Quartz is in the new Meteor Field biome. While the easier pathways to reach it will be blocked by ice early in the game, you can still get here by a longer path through the Boulder Desert -> Wasteland -> Meteor Field. Just make sure you bring food, water, and supplies for an Oxygen Base. Honestly I like the Meteor Field for getting Pulsar Quartz because it’s all black and white inside the biome because of the atmospheric effects. This nighttime look makes it easy to see this glowing pinkish-purple piece of crystal.
Top O’ The Waterfalls
In the Insects & Waterfalls update, we also got the namesake Waterfalls biome which has a whopping two pieces of Pulsar Quartz on top of the Waterfalls plateau. Now I consider this spot to not really be worth it unless you want to get a good view. You will need a lot of Oxygen and the Jetpack in order to slowly work your way up to the top of the pillar. That’s a lot of work for just two scraps of Pulsar Quartz.
A Big Ol’ Purple Meteor
It’s not a Flying Purple People Eater, but just a big flying purple meteor that will randomly trigger once your Terraformation Index is high enough. This is not really a meteor storm because it is only one meteor, and that meteor travels extremely slowly. Once it hits and explodes, you will find several pieces of Pulsar Quartz at the location. Like all other meteors except Super Allow, the Pulsar Quartz dropped by this meteor will not despawn until you exit the game. So make sure you snag all those purple shards before you quit playing!
What’s The Best Option?
Obviously for most of the early to mid-game time you are playing, you will be relying on what pieces of Pulsar Quartz you can collect from the various locations mentioned above. But these few pieces will only get you so far so be conservative with them. Once you hit 175 GTI and unlock the recipe, then you can ignore all other options and just worry about crafting. All of the materials needed to produce Pulsar Quartz can be mined through Ore Extractors and the Gas Extractors. While there are plenty of locations for getting a few pieces of Pulsar Quartz, the best option is going to be simply crafting it. You will just have to be patient on this one.
