Planet Crafter is filled with various materials you need to gather to build the structures and items necessary for survival and progression. One essential resource you’ll require is sulfur. Sulfur is used in crafting items such as the jetpack tier 2, bio lab tier 2, fertilizer, explosive powder, and mutagen. In this guide, we’ll explore where to find sulfur to meet your crafting needs.
Where to Find Your First Pieces of Sulfur
To kickstart your sulfur collection journey, you’ll want to know where to find the initial pieces of sulfur. You can obtain sulfur from various crates scattered across the planet. The likelihood of sulfur spawning in these crates depends on your terraformation index, so keep that in mind when hunting for sulfur. While these crates will provide you with a few pieces of sulfur, they are mainly suitable for acquiring the sulfur needed for basic, one-time build items.
Additionally, sulfur can be found in the osmium caves. However, accessing these caves can be challenging as they are initially blocked by ice. So, if you’re only looking for a small amount of sulfur, the crates and osmium caves may suffice.
Mine the Sulfur Fields
If you’re seeking a substantial and long-term supply of sulfur, the sulfur fields biome is your go-to destination. This area is abundant in sulfur, making it an ideal location for mining. Here’s how to reach the sulfur fields:
- Steep Hill Wreck Entrance: You can access the sulfur fields through an entrance located next to the steep hill wreck. This cave connects not only to the sulfur fields but also to the zeolite cave, which is initially blocked by ice. Keep in mind that you may still need to gather some sulfur from other sources before navigating through these caves due to the ice blockages.
- Iridium Mine Entrance: Another way to reach the sulfur fields is through an opening in the iridium mine. Similar to the osmium cave entrance, this pathway is blocked by ice until it melts enough to be usable. To find it, look for a pathway through the cliff as if you were going to the super alloy cave. Once you go through this path, you’ll arrive in the sulfur fields.
The sulfur fields are expansive, much like the aluminum fields. You can place tier 1 or tier 2 ore extractors anywhere in this biome to mine sulfur as the primary resource. Given the ample sulfur resources available here, there’s no need to explore other locations for sulfur mining.
2 More Things to Know
Before you embark on your sulfur mining adventure, there are a couple of important things to keep in mind:
1. Misleading Markings
Beware of misleading markings on the boulder desert, which suggest sulfur locations. In reality, these are not sulfur caves but pulsar quartz caves. While you may find some osmium and sulfur there, none of it is mineable at that location. This can be confusing, as it contradicts the labeling of other osmium caves as sulfur resources.
2. Extractor Misconception
There’s a misconception that placing a tier 1 ore extractor in an osmium cave will yield sulfur. However, this is not accurate. A tier 1 ore extractor in an osmium cave will produce iron as its primary resource, not sulfur. The tier 2 ore extractors when placed in osmium caves will only mine osmium. So, don’t rely on tier 1 ore extractors for sulfur extraction in osmium caves.
In conclusion, acquiring sulfur in Planet Crafter is essential for crafting various items, and the sulfur fields biome is your best bet for a consistent supply. Choose your pathway to the sulfur fields wisely, set up your extractors, and watch your sulfur reserves grow.
